I love this! I’ve always appreciated your positivity. I messaged you years ago when I was in the midst of a miscarriage and I’ll never forget how kind you were, and how open you were about your own experiences. I recently deleted insta because it stopped feeling good/real to me, but you were always one of the bright spots there and I’m happy that I can continue to follow you here 🤗
Thank you for your encouraging words about communicating online, and what kinds of words would be honest and true and meaningful!! Our world is filling with AI stuff, but we can stop that slippery slope by writing good things..
I liked how you described how if someone you might be following is not uplifting, negative, puts you down ( they don’t you!) and are just “ick”—- don’t follow them! We have agency to make that decision to just say “no” to the garbage talk!
Talk to friends, and family and neighbors…even a short call to check in, or make a time to meet and see each other in person!

I have followed you for a long time. Back when you were cooking in an apt. While I love what you cook, I also love that you are you. I even envy that you are able to be unapologetically you every day, even as your follower base and businesses have grown so quickly. I have been searching for that version of me. Thank you to you, I understand what happens when you connect and show up as your true self. Rooting for everything great for you and your family!
I appreciated reading your perspective! As a long-time follower, owner of all your cookbooks, sharer of your recipes, but slacker in comments, thinking about comments as a currency is new to me. I met you at the Santa Fe retreat (I was the very pregnant one lol) and appreciated how engaging and open you are in person. Love that it comes through in your social media too. Promise to work on my commenting!
I have been on Nantucket during the whole “no influencers” kerfuffle and am very interested hearing all the opinions. We all love influencers and have been influenced, but what’s happening on Nantucket (a truly special island 30 miles out) is difficult to defend. The lines at Dairy Boy (comprised of influenced women/girls who MUST get in the door and are not concerned with blocking other stores or people in their paths) are absurd, and the amount of people who truly don’t care about the charm, integrity, locals, workers, or small businesses on the island is hard to witness. The owners of Four Winds /Sylvia Antiques who posted the sign are incredible island business owners, and they don’t deserve the backlash. They were just the bravest to say it. All the shops, restaurants, hotels, drivers, ferry employees, etc. deserve to be treated with respect. This summer is the first time I was sad to see so many influencers giving other/all well-mannered visitors/influencers a bad reputation.
Man, I bet it's wild to see it in real time. I get it. If people are treating local businesses, employees, or the island itself without respect, that's frustrating regardless of who they are. That is upsetting x 100
I think it's probably a few bad apples giving an entire profession a bad reputation. Rude behavior is rude behavior, whether you're an influencer, a tourist, or a local.
The issue isn't that someone creates content, it's that they aren't being considerate. Those feel like two very different things ya?
Exactly. Some are ruining it for everyone. And I don't think the owners were targeting this at a heavily women-run industry. It's just taken on a life of its own. Maybe it's made everyone just think about what it means to be a visitor anywhere. Just be considerate. And one of the best parts of popping into all the shops is talking to the owners and workers. You meet the best people! I was one of those college kids working many years ago. Summers on the island are the best. Hope people stop to appreciate and enjoy
I'm an avid reader [and retired editor/English professor]. I'll *read* comments and reply, meaningfully -- but am not inclined to *listen* to a windy podcast or rant‼️
